Millay, Edna St. Vincent.
Women's Yearbook "The Lamp of 1931" Inscribed with Poem.
Auburndale, MA:
Lasell Seminary for Young Women
1931.
First Edition.
76th Annual Commencement for Lasell Seminary for Young Women, Tuesday, June 9, 1931. This prestigious women's college became Lasell Junior College in 1932. Millay was named in 1931 as "honorary class member", and is so listed, with her picture, in the yearbook. This copy of the yearbook has been inscribed to a member of the Junior Class by Millay, who has also written out a very characteristic poem which reads in full "Our life is but a slender thread/ We try to spin a clever web/ To try to catch a few bright days/ Before it's whisked away/ Edna St. Vincent Millay" on the front flyleaf. Laid in is the original program for the commencement exercises, which also mentions Millay's "induction". An Interesting and unusual souvenir of the famous poet, then still in her prime. The yearbook also contains several signed drawings and lithographs by class members - some of whom became artists later on. Small 4to limp black cloth.
Very good+ copy. [Book #25482]
