An interesting copy, from the library of Marshall Clements, with his ownership mark - the letter "M" - on the front flyleaf. Clements is not only the dedicatee of the novel - designated "pour M.R.C." on the dedication page - but is also, in a sense, the novel's hero, as the protagonist is clearly based on Clements' life. Laid into the book is a brief handwritten (but unsigned) note from the author - clearly to Clements - which reads, in full, "Do you believe this!?" A fascinating, if somewhat cryptic, dedication copy of the first French edition of Gifford's first novel - LANDSCAPE WITH TRAVELER. Original wrappers with publicity belly-band. Small crack and light rub top of spine else very good.
