THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE. A Confession of Faith.

New York: Harcourt Brace & Company, 1940. First Edition. Hardcover. Signed in full by Anne Morrow Lindbergh on the half-title page. Stated first edition, first printing, with no mention of a later printing on the copyright page. This small book is basically a statement of the case against involvement in the unfolding war in Europe, widely considered an isolationist tract. What is important about this copy is that it is also inscribed by Charles Lindbergh on the front fly as follows: "For Senator Pat McCarran/ from Charles A. Lindbergh/ October, 1940" the "1940" being slightly smudged, though readable. Charles Lindbergh had, a month earlier - in September 1940 - become the most prominent chairman of the America First Committee. Although he later completely supported the U.S. in World War II after Pearl Harbor, he has been remembered as perhaps the most prominent isolationist American (among several others one should look up). This book with its inscription to a prominent U.S. senator marks that important phase of the great pilot's political life. Unusual signed by Anne, it is highly uncommon signed by both husband and wife. Small format hardcover. Fine copy in a near-fine, price clipped dj with a tiny chip at fold, an almost invisible tiny stain front cover, and a small scuff to the rear panel. An excellent bright copy.
