Engraved presentation front cover by Mr. George Alexander as a souvenir of his twentieth year of management of the St. James's Theatre, February 1910. 1200 of this special edition of IMPORTANCE were printed. Laid in is a contemporary postcard image of George Alexander (1858-1918), who was an actor, producer and theatre manager. As a professional Alexander worked with such talents as Henry Irving, Tom Robertson, and W. H. Kendal, and iis known to have influenced Wilde's writing of this play. Small 8vo green cloth, Very minor wear to 2 bottom corner tips and a tiny scuff or two to edges. Otherwise a nearly fine copy. The laid in card is also fine.
