THE INNER HOUSE.

London: Bristol: J. W. Arrowsmith, 11 Quay Street, 1888. Rebound 1st Edition. Hardcover. Important Victorian-era dystopian novel exploring the consequences of artificially prolonged life. It concerns a future society where the people never age but seem stuck in a permanent state of apathy and idleness. Considered by some to be an early precursor to Huxley's Brave New World. Originally published in Arrowsmith's Christmas Annual for 1888. Issued in book form as "Arrowsmith's Bristol Library, Vol. XXXIII" bound in either paper wrappers or cloth [according to L. W. Currey]. This being the paper edition, lacking the covers and rebound in burnt orange cloth with paper title labels on spine and cover. Marbled endpapers. "WILTS" stamped on top edge of pages. Very good.
