8vo. viii, 616pp. Engraved frontispiece and numerous wood engravings throughout. From the library of the Society of Writers to the Signet, with their gilt armorial stamp to both boards. Contemporary calf binding, subsequently rebacked in brown calf with raised bands and gilt lettering, retaining the original boards. Good. Contemporary calf boards heavily rubbed and worn at edges and corners, with areas of surface loss; professionally rebacked in later calf with raised bands and gilt lettering. Scattered foxing and age toning, heavier at the preliminaries. Binding now sound.
