The 1799 Bensley edition of the celebrated political letters of “Junius,” originally published anonymously in the Public Advertiser between 1769 and 1772 and generally, though never conclusively, attributed to Sir Philip Francis. Illustrated with engraved portraits, additional engraved title pages dated 1797, and numerous woodcut head- and tailpieces. Bound in contemporary full calf with gilt-ruled boards, elaborately decorated spines, and black morocco labels. Good or better. Contemporary full calf bindings well rubbed along the edges and extremities, but sound overall. Some spotting and age toning internally. Bookplate residue to both volumes; one Avon Old Farms bookplate survives loose and laid in.
