BEHIND THE SCREEN [Association copy inscribed by Samuel Goldwyn to Marcus Loew]

New York: George H. Doran, 1963. First Edition / First Printing. Hardcover. Presentation copy inscribed by Samuel Goldwyn to film pioneer Marcus Loew: “To Marcus Loew / Whose friendship I value most highly. / With great admiration and good wishes / Samuel Goldwyn.” An exceptional association between two of the central figures in the development of the American motion picture industry. Published in 1923, shortly after Goldwyn's departure from Goldwyn Pictures and just before Loew acquired the company and combined it with Metro Pictures and Louis B. Mayer's studio to form Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Illustrated throughout with photographic plates of prominent figures of the silent-film era. 268pp. Good or better. Red cloth rubbed and faded, with wear and light fraying at the spine ends and corners. Hinges beginning to separate but still firm. Frontispiece partially loose, with some edge nicks; small stain affecting the preliminary leaves and frontispiece. Final leaf affixed to the rear pastedown. Lacking dust jacket.
